Exhibition 2.0 Gallery Opening Saturday, October 7th

Join us on Saturday, October 7th from 6pm-8:30pm at the Chinatown Community Center (1001 Vine St., Philadelphia, PA) to kick off Exhibition 2.0: Our Home - Chinatown, Philadelphia.

This is one of two photo exhibits taking place in Chinatown this fall. The other exhibit will be hosted by the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) from October 20-22, 2023.

Why so many photo exhibits in a short period of time? For Exhibition 2.0, it’s all about using photos to share how Chinatown is home to the exhibitors featured. People not familiar with Chinatown may not view the area as a home or neighborhood but more as a place. This exhibition aims to change that perception. Photos are such an easy way to connect with everyone, whether you’re a long time residents or someone who has never been to Chinatown. For those who know Chinatown well, these galleries will be exciting to recognize where the photos were taken or it may provide you a new way of looking at a part of the neighborhood. The galleries may trigger memories that are similar to the ones that you see in the gallery and it may spur you to share those memories with those around you. For those who don’t know Chinatown well, these three galleries will provide you a view on how Chinatown is more than a location, it’s a home with many different dimensions and a neighborhood with a powerful legacy and future.

Learn more and sign up to join us for the Exhibition 2.0 gallery opening here. RSVP’ing will help us prepare for everyone attending but it’s not required. This is an independent event with no prior funding. To help cover the many costs of supporting this event, there will be several ways for attendees to support this special event. There will be a mini marketplace on opening night which will include Chinatown postcards and nostalgia packs featuring a pack of postcards, stickers, and childhood candies. You can also make an online donation here.

If you aren’t able to make it out to the opening, no worries! The galleries will be turned towards the glass facade of the Crane Community Center at 10th and Vine from 10/7-10/15 where you can view the galleries from the sidewalk. It’s our hope and intention that these galleries will allow you to see Chinatown Philly as a vibrant neighborhood and a home like no other.
