Announcing Exhibition 2.0: Our Home - Chinatown Philadelphia

It’s an important time in Chinatown, Philadelphia. Once again, there are proposals that would encroach on the neighborhood and have the potential to negatively impact residents and business owners. Studies are to be completed to analyze the potential impact. It’s an important and necessary process with real value to understand the broad impacts on the neighborhood. However, it can be challenging to humanize the lived experiences of people who call Chinatown home, who own businesses in Chinatown, who find community in Chinatown.

This year’s exhibition is set to focus on the human side of what it means to call Chinatown home. When the term ‘home’ is used, many think of home as a structure. However, what if we think about home as an intangible quality or feeling or everyday experience that shapes who we are. For many, Chinatown is our home. Home as a physical home, home as a gathering place for community, home as finding the comforts in a meal. This is a critical time to share these experiences with the broader community and city to show the human element of the Chinatown community.

Wether you are a resident or a frequent visitor to Chinatown, you have a way of defining how Chinatown is home to you. This exhibition is the opportunity for lovers of Chinatown to share their stories of how Chinatown is home to them through a series of photo and/or multimedia galleries. You don’t need to be a professional photographer, you just need to have a passionate story to share with others.
